100,000 lb. Line Pull Truck & Adjustable Reel Trailer

B.L. Kline Engineering recently worked with Claylick Fabrication, LLC. on a specialized equipment upgrade for New Directions Utilities, Inc. and S&S Cable.

The client required a high-capacity line-pull truck and reel trailer capable of transporting and pulling new high-voltage underground transmission cables in varying sizes.

The Challenge

New Directions Utilities, Inc. needed a system with significantly higher pulling capacity than typical line trucks, along with a reel trailer with an adjustable spool holder that could accommodate multiple spool sizes.

Their goal was to achieve one of the highest line pulls available for this type of equipment while maintaining safety, stability, and structural integrity.

Our Role

Claylick Weld & Fab provided the initial design concept and managed documentation changes. B.L. Kline Engineering was brought in to perform all structural and mechanical analyses required for the project.

Our team evaluated the design to ensure it could withstand a 100,000 lb. line pull while supporting adjustable reel widths and the mechanical forces associated with pulling high-voltage underground transmission cables. We also provided the PE review and seal for the final design package.

The Result

The final solution for New Directions Utilities and S&S Cable is a robust, high-capacity line pull truck paired with an adjustable-width reel trailer that securely transports and deploys high-voltage cables of various sizes safely and efficiently.
